Shahanshah Salukis
Salukis exclusively since 1975
In 1995, it was time for the next step in the story, and my third homebred litter was planned and arrived. However, this step was made possible only by someone else preserving my Aziz/Rima (Generation 3) litter first. Owing to concentration on graduate studies and family obligations in the 1990s, I was unable to breed from any of the beautiful salukis I kept from that litter, as spectacular as they were: Ch. Shahanshah Sandstorm, near-champion Shahanshah Sand Star, and the incredibly beautiful Shahanshah Sand Pebble. Susan Jones of Kansas City owned and showed the red male puppy in the litter to his championship, Ch. Shahanshah Sandstone. Sue bred Stoney, as he was known, to her Ch. El Baz Moriah, from which she got Ch. Celeres Wind Beneath My Wings, who in turn sired the amazing Ch. Celeres Firebrand of Aerie, LCM VIII, "BRANDO."  Owned and piloted to incredible heights of success on the lure coursing field by Marie and Don Adams, The Aerie Salukis, Brando provided the link back that I so desperately wanted when I found the right moment to continue forward. I will forever be indebted to Sue Jones for preserving the Aziz litter and Don and Marie Adams for bringing the best out of Brando, an incredibly talented and mercurial coursing saluki!

Brando's mate came down from "The Family" of Canem-Dei salukis in a litter bred by Sara Drake, Cimmarron Salukis. Her chocolate bitch "Coco," Ch. The Aerie's Let's Fly Away (from the "Flying" litter bred by Don and Marie) was bred to a lovely mahogany male bred by Ron and Sue Lang (Enkiydu) and owned by Dennis Schmidt, Carnis Salukis, Ch. Enkiydu Forte. My puppy from that litter, Cimmarron Paharia Royale, a delightful sooty-faced tri girl, came to me at about 3 months of age and, although ultimately unshowable due to a hock injury at 9 months, she more than proved her worth in the whelping box with the Brando/Paharia SHAHANSHAH SONG litter, born April 10, 1995. There were 9 pups in the litter (one died very young in an accident soon after leaving home). Five became champions: my own Ch. S. Hey Jack Kerouac, "Jack;" Ch. S. Touched by the Sun, "Carly," owned by Dennis Schmidt and Michael Bell, Carnis; Ch. S. Somthin' T' Talkabout, "Rumor," owned by Kevin Carlson, Aeolis Salukis; Ch. S. Invisible Touch, "Zahrah," owned by Amy Charles, Amala Salukis, and Ch. S. Brilliant Disguise, "Zarifa", co-owned with Sara Drake, Cimmarron salukis.

There were three National Award of Merit winners in the litter: Carly, Rumor, and Zahrah. Carly and Zahrah were repeat National AOW recipients. To my knowledge this record in a single litter has never been equalled.

Ch. Shahanshah Brilliant Disguise, shown to her championship by the Carlsons, would provide the next link in the Shahanshah chain when she was bred in 2001 to Ch. El Baz Hakim, SM, owned by Dean Morris, Farar Salukis. The litter, bred by Sara Drake, Dean and myself, contained the future Farar's Kalil, "Ashley," which brings the Shahanshah story almost up to date.
